| The Fremont Township Community Emergency Response Team, CERT,
was formed in 2006. Currently it has 19 actively, trained members.
The team meets about four times a year to review and maintain the
skills necessary in case of an emergency. Training classes for the
CERT Team are free and consists of seven 2 ½ hour sessions.
The classes emphasize disaster preparedness, fire suppression, first
aid training, light search and rescue techniques and team coordination.
The course ends with a simulated disaster drill. Members who complete
the training have a better understanding of potential threats to
their home, neighborhood and workplace; they are educated in taking
the correct steps to lessen the effects and assist others in an
efficient manner without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.
CERT members can apply the training learned in the classroom and
during exercises to give critical support to their families, neighbors
or associates until help arrives. When responders do arrive, CERT
can provide useful information and support their efforts. CERT is
about readiness; people helping people, rescuer safety and doing
the greatest good for the greatest number. CERT is a positive and
realistic approach to making good decisions in emergency and disaster
situations. The township is always seeking new members. If you would
like to join a training group, call the township at 847.223.2847.
